Your 2022 weekly household cleaning checklist

Choosing a weekly household cleaning schedule that works for you

We know that when you come home from a busy day or have had a late night up with your family, the last thing you want to even think about is the dishes piling up in the corner or the dust that seems to be settling on your ornaments. Yet the cleaning is always there to be completed and can be one of the most constant aspects of our lives!

Rex Property Cleaning has put together this handy guide for you to keep on top of your weekly household cleaning, and we have created a simple task list that means you will never get behind on those dishes or washing piles again!

Weekly household cleaning tasks to split throughout the week

Our first piece of advice is don't try to tackle all of your cleaning in one go. Not only will you burn yourself out, but you will find that you will quickly fall into bad habits again of ignoring the grime and washing. Why not split your weekly household cleaning into more manageable chunks? You will find this more rewarding, you will feel like you are getting more accomplished, and you can reward yourself with a cup of your favourite drink afterwards - it's a win-win situation!

Monday

It's the first day after the weekend, and you have had a long day back at work. Take it easy today! Why not focus on your floors? Giving your floors a mop, brush and vacuum will instantly brighten your home, make it smell nicer, and you will be able to get rid of the dirt that has been tracked through your home after a muddy weekend walk.

Tuesday

Tuesday is toilet day! Grab your gloves, some bleach and a scrubby brush and tackle those loos. This is no one's favourite job, but with the toilet being one of the worst places to store harmful bacteria, they need to be done and done often. Whilst you are in the bathroom, why not give your baths and showers a scrub as well? Shake out our bathmats and get rid of the ring of scum that seems to appear after a bath!

Wednesday

Spend some time getting to know your kitchen. Something many of us forget to do is the doorknobs in our home - particularly the kitchen door. This could be a bacteria hotel as we tend to prep all food in the kitchen and then open the door to move somewhere else - sometimes forgetting to wash our hands! Give those appliances a once over and ensure your kitchen worktops have been disinfected. Make your kitchen sparkle on hump day.

Thursday

Ahhhh laundry! If you are a typical family household, you may want to consider interspersing your laundry day throughout the week to keep up with the pile! Having your laundry day on a Thursday means you will have all your washing back, dry and (hopefully) stored away before the weekend comes around again!

Friday

Use a Friday to spend some time in the bedrooms - do you need to change the sheets? Add new linen to the beds and ensure that all your and your family's bits and bobs are put away out of sight - you may be surprised at how much space you gain!

Saturday

Today is the day a whole family can get involved in! Set a timer and set to work, seeing who can clean up the fastest (and the neatest)! Either give each family member a room, floor or space to work in and use this time as a general clear up to put away anything that has crept out over the week. You may be surprised at how much you can get done when the whole family gets involved.

Sunday

No housekeeping today! This day should be about you and your family. Self-care is a priority, so treat yourself to a relaxing bath, go for a walk, see your loved ones and take some time back for yourself - you have more than earned it!

Give yourself a break - your home is beautiful!

We know that the above list may look a little scary to start with, but if you are strict with your times and you focus on the task at hand, you will be able to achieve so much more than you think with your weekly household cleaning. There are some things that we would recommend doing daily so that you are not left with a massive pile at the end of the week. This includes washing your dishes after a meal and putting your dirty laundry into the basket at the end of the day. If you do these little things daily, your weekly household cleaning tasks get much more manageable!

Don't forget that your own time is essential. Practicing self-care is vital to being happy and healthy, so it's important that you only do what you can manage. If you miss a task, don't beat yourself up - it will still be there tomorrow! Go at your own pace and do what is suitable for you and your home.
